April Showers

Today is a day of April showers in Windsor. I’m cosy in the house and the rain is pattering on the windows. I like it.

The rain is also watering in the planting in the garden I did earlier. I have planted some of each of these below.

The carrot and sunflower seeds were a freebie with the May issue of Gardeners’ World. I bought this magazine mainly for the 2 4 1 annual garden entry card. The gardens listed include places such as Kew Gardens which are usually quite expensive. I love visiting gardens, especially when there is a café involved. 😉

The bulbs in the brown paper bag are called Ranunculus Asiaticus and were a birthday gift from my sister in law. I haven’t planted these before, the bulbs are interesting shapes with spider like legs you plant downwards. It will be interesting to see how these turn out.

My veg patch is taking shape now. The rhubarb is in abundance. I have also planted a pumpkin plant and some carrot seeds in the main bed. Most of the rest of the space is reserved for the Arran Pilot potatoes I will plant this weekend. The pots on the wall are nearly full, although I can always add more if needed. I have lettuce, tomatoes, parsley, coriander, mint and thyme. Lovely!

This was taken after I’d planted some of the pots, the herbs are now in too so it looks better than this! I really like my growing wall.

Little pumpkin plant.

Lettuce.

Tomatoes.

Rhubarb.

So all of that is coming along rather nicely, don’t you think?

I went for a little walk around the block this afternoon, posting a birthday card en route. There were some happy Spring sights along the way. Who is too busy to stop and take pretty pictures in the rain? Not me today.

What a beautiful weed!

Don’t you just love the glossiness of the leaves on this red robin bush?

Blossom. I just can’t get enough of it.

This is along a wall. So gorgeous.

This I took the other day, in the sunshine. Blossom pompom balls ❤️❤️❤️.

Spring has sprung.

I’m so happy all this gorgeous stuff is now blooming and thriving.

In case you’re wondering, it’s a very easy dinner tonight of a ready made Charlie Bigham’s chicken in white wine with mashed potatoes. I just have to heat it up and maybe do some green beans to go with it. I’m quite a fan of green beans. For pudding there will be Easter eggs.. yes, we are still eating the Easter eggs, just a little each night with a hot drink in front of the TV. The Waffle household routine. Hope you enjoyed the update and pics. Back soon Xx.

  1. Hmmm might just have shamelessly nicked your Growing Wall idea – landscapers are in at the moment giving ours a long overdue facelift; we’ll not have a lot of bed space so salad and herbs on the wall it is!!!

The chaps were NOT impressed with the rain yesterday (had to abandon laying the patio) but I must admit I was glad to see some rain!
