Windsor is busy. There are cars, bicycles, people, dogs, children, everywhere! It is hard to find some space. All the restaurants and bars are now booked up weeks if not months in advance. The virus figures are going down and down (thank goodness) and everyone is out and about in the sunshine.
For lunch today we decided to get away from it all and check out the little known new Café by the Lake at the Thames Valley Hospice by Bray Lake. The new hospice is a very impressive looking building, with a beautiful outlook over Bray Lake (between Windsor and Maidenhead). The reception area includes a small gift shop and a café used by staff members inside and members of the public outside. The café is very reasonably priced; you can get a coffee or a hot chocolate for £1.50 and the setting outside is peaceful and stunningly beautiful. David and I opted for a panini each. I had cheese and mushroom and David had cheese and ham, a large cappuccino for me and a Diet Coke for him. The total bill was £8. something. The cakes looked yummy but we didn’t have any on this occasion. We were the only people outside at the time of our visit.
After lunch we decided to explore a bit and were pleased to discover you can now walk all the way around Bray Lake, as this didn’t use to be possible.
Swans a swimming.
This is Bray Watersports. You can do paddle boarding, windsurfing, bungee, Segway etc.
They have a café outdoors there too (opposite the hospice café) we plan to try out another time. It seemed a bit warmer out of the wind this side of the lake.
My adventurous friend invited me here swimming once, but I didn’t really fancy it. I bet it’s cold and maybe not that clean, it looks nice from the path but I don’t desire to go in!
This quarry is for gravel.
Blue flowers but not bluebells, maybe weeds but I like them.
A nice sculpture in the grounds of the hospice.
So I hope you enjoyed today’s tour of the lake. Shhhh.. don’t tell everyone as I don’t want it to get too crowded like the rest of Windsor. For tonight it’s a takeaway toss up between Gurkha Royale (Nepalese) and Zizzi’s (Italian). As it’s Saturday there will be a homemade cocktail 🍹. I hadn’t really planned this so it’s going to be simple, but new. I’m going to make tequila screwdrivers which are basically just blanco or silver tequila with orange juice rather than your traditional screwdriver made with vodka. Sounds interesting. Cheers. Bottoms up! 😂Xx
